Niruththasorubi Tharmakulendra (fondly known as Niruththa Teacher) is a Graduate of Music from Queen Mary’s College, Chennai. She was also the disciple of Padmashri Adyar K. Lakshman in his school of dancing ‘Bharatha Choodamani’  and obtained the Diploma in Dancing & Nattuvangam. She has taken part in various dance competitions both within and outside the University and has won medals and merit certificates.

 

She has been awarded the First place in dance competitions held by the Madras Medical college and she was awarded the championship cup for the best performance by Dr. Karunanithy. She has also been accorded the title of ‘Natya Ratna’.

 

Niruththasorubi has given recitals in Bharatanatyam in Chennai, Bangalore, Cuddalore, Pondicherry, Chitthamparam, Kerala and Karaikudi. The popular Indian Journal ‘Hindu’ has paid tribute to her merits.

 

She has had the privilege to perform in Zurich upon invitation by the Zurich Tamil association. The Sri Lankan Tamil Veerakesari and Thinakaran Daily Newspaper reporters have written appreciation of the performances given by her school Nruthy Akshetra. Niruththasorubi was a member of the Tutorial Staff of the Hindu Ladies College, Wellawatte, Sri Lanka.

 

She is now The Principal of Niruththa Fine Arts School of Dancing at Mill Park, Melbourne, Australia.
